Many hosting companies want to "transfer your domain registration" to them. This is not necessary. All you need to do is point DNS for eMail and Web to our server(s) and you are good to go. We can do this for you if you wish.

We do suggest that you move your domain registration to eNom as you will find that they are *tons* easier to deal with and usually less expensive than the others.

Managed?

I manage web and mail servers with all of the various applications. I make sure that your site is up and operational. I change or edit DNS for the correct alias to IP resolution. In other words, I don't just throw up your site and walk away. I help you establish your web presence, then I help you continue with your site as it grows your business. When you have questions, they are usually answered immediately. I have years experience with PHP, Perl and MySql and can help in most situations.

If you already know how to take care of your site, that is not a problem either. I am always available for questions! Note that I don't allow root access so I would get your account setup, add or edit existing email and stuff like that, but the web is yours and I will only check on your operational status and possible html errors. If you want to 'roll your own' then you may wish to look into our virtual server account; read about it here.

Virtual Server

One hundred million bits per second capability! Up and Down. Most people can not tell because of the slow speeds that they run and home or work.
200Meg web space -> huge for even the largest thinking web designer. For example, I host a
site with *lots* of pictures - 592 the last count which amounts to about 39Meg of JPG's. I have yet another 1000 to scan and put up which by using the above we should hit about 150 meg -> 1500 ( 640x480 for most ) pictures! Think about it. Plenty of space for the ... ahem ... normal web site!
PhP and Perl are scripting languages which I use to deal with MySql databases. If you wish to write your own you may be more interested in the 'virtual server' offering.
Theoretically, 100Meg translates to ( 100,000,000 * 60 * 60 * 24 ) 8,640,000,000,000 bits of transfer per day one way ( 10,800,000,000 bytes or characters ) which is hard to comprehend. Gee, if you type at 80 characters per minute, it would take you about 30,000,000 hours to complete -> 16 years! Anyway there are too many bits to count so we offer 'unlimited' bandwidth. Makes sense to me....

Email

  • Antispam
  • Antivirus

Unlimited accounts featuring Spam assassin, ClamAV and Tempfail. Tempfail is by far the best spam deterrent there is ( so far )! ClamAV is a server side virus checker and is updated automagicaly on a day by day basis; sometimes hourly. As any antivirus it is not 100% so having additional virus protection on your local box for email is still OkieDokie. I require passwords with at least 8 characters, letters and digits. No proper names ( john@ susie@ ) is best as that keeps the dictionary attacks from guessing your user name.

Web Mail

What a blessing webmail is. No more having to setup a remote computer for choose one[Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Evolution ... etc ] trying to remember all the server settings! Our web mail is secure as you log into a secure host ( https: ). Now it doesn't matter if you are in a HotSpot on your laptop, or a 'provided' machine. Just surf to the webmail server, enter your email address as a logname, then your password. Open WebMail is a friendly and easy to navigate application which you shouldn't have any problems. If a problem does crop up, the help menu is extensive!

Your box

Your 1U box; Compaq G3's, IBM xSeries 335 ... etc. This site is running on an IBM eSeries 335 ( dual XEON, 3.0Gig, 2gig memory ) and runs circles around the Internet speed. Sure, 100Meg up/down is fast - even the fastest FiOS or cable is slow in comparison ( Comcast 50meg down,3Meg up, Verizone 25Meg down, 5Meg up ) as of 2009... one IP address ( more available ), and a managment port if requested. Just remember that when you come to the data center, bring keyboard, mouse and monitor with you as there is no guarantee that those will be there. Oh and if you ever need it you can go f a s t e r, up to 25Gig!
